In late December 2023, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) released guidelines on the operations of bank accounts for Virtual Assets Service Providers (VASPs).

The VASP guidelines impact the shift in the regulatory landscape for digital assets in Nigeria, and we have provided an overview of the guidelines against the backdrop of the timeline of cryptocurrency regulation in Nigeria to date.
