TLP Advisory – If you can’t hire your investor, don’t take their money

In a Techpoint Africa interview, Odunoluwa Longe, Partner at TLP Advisory, outlined key considerations for founders when choosing investors. Founders, she advised, should treat the decision as they would a critical hire, prioritising trust, compatibility, and shared vision. Beyond capital, the value an investor brings should be evaluated through direct conversations with other founders they’ve backed. Longe also noted the need to manage expectations among newer angel investors, particularly around the long timelines typical for startup liquidity. Investors with strong networks, she said, can be instrumental in future fundraising and eventual exit opportunities.
